My heart has been in my throat for this institution, its artists, and you and Team Folds, ever since this all started last year.

So glad you took the time to write these meaningful thoughts. Following nso_musicians on igram now, and absolutely going to try to take steps to make sure we don’t lose these talented and treasured geniuses.

We’re still fighting it ✊

Ben,

I've read this three times now.

Not because of the politics. Because of the orchestra.

I lead the Springfield Symphony Orchestra in Springfield, Massachusetts. We're smaller. We don't have the profile of the National Symphony Orchestra. Most days we're fighting for the same things every regional orchestra is fighting for. Funding. Relevance. Attention. Belief.

Our city doesn't always show up for us the way we'd hope. Some days it feels like we're asking people to remember why orchestras matter at all.

But we're still here.

Every day, we're trying to prove that an orchestra isn't a museum. It isn't nostalgia. It isn't a luxury. It's civic infrastructure. It's education. It's economic development. It's mental health. It's belonging. It's a place where hundreds of people choose to breathe together for two hours when the world keeps asking them to divide.

That's the future I'm fighting for.

Your line about the orchestra being a symbol of civilization stopped me cold because I've believed that for years. When an orchestra succeeds, it becomes evidence that strangers can listen to one another, trust one another, and create something none of them could create alone.

That's worth saving.

So here's my invitation.

Come to Springfield.

See what we're building. Challenge us. Inspire us. Help us show that the future of American orchestras doesn't have to look like the past. Help us prove that these institutions can become indispensable to the communities they serve.

We're not waiting for someone else to save orchestras.

We're trying to build one worth saving.
